Get Out of Town
When was the last time you were able to get out of town? I don’t mean a big, planned-months-in-advance family vacation — I’m talking about a night away sans kids (if you have those), with a weekend bag and a breezy itinerary.
If it’s been awhile since your last trip — or even if it hasn’t — let’s talk about what a difference a day makes. From looking forward to an out of your ordinary little adventure, to actually having some space away from the regularly scheduled details of your lives, it’s a chance to breath and be. And I can’t recommend enough that you get something on your calendar right away!
An overnight is much more affordable than a more extended trip, but it always seems to be enough of a respite that it feels like a longer time away. And, if you do have kids, finding a sitter (or another couple to swap turns with) for one night is perhaps slightly less daunting than finding help for a longer trip. It’s worth putting your heads together to figure it out.
And, planning this whole thing is part of the fun.
Yep, even if the reality of this is a few months away, this week’s date night idea is to plan your next getaway!
So blend yourself your favorite frozen drink to coax summer along, and get dreaming!
Where Are You Going?
Look at a map and consider all of your overnight options within a one to two-ish hour radius. Maybe there’s a little town you have always meant to visit, or a national park within range, or a lake with cabins. Make a list of your favorite possibilities and share with each other your favorite ideas.
Get creative about lodging options. Do you have hotel points from a credit card you’ve yet to use up? Any great deals on sites like Hotwire or Priceline? Or any interesting AirBnB options? Let yourself be surprised. Last weekend we stayed in an RV in the middle of the desert — it was cheaper than a hotel and much more memorable!
Get it on the calendar! Pencil it in – or use Sharpie if you like. Get it on there though, so you can start looking forward to it now!
Whatever you do, enjoy the feeling of possibility that comes from planning your next adventure!
